About Me

Hello everybody! And welcome to My Year In Maine!

My name is Ida, and I grew up in Denmark. I spend my days with friends, family, music, dancing, books, walks, school and tons of fun!

Ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to explore the world. I always loved to travel, and in 5th grade I got a brochure about being an Exchange Student in a foreign country, and I fell in love with that idea. So I drove my parents crazy talking about it for years, before they finally signed me up for it. I went through an interview, and had to fill out a lot of papers and questions about myself to get accepted for going, and finally it happened, I got the call!
Then I had to wait! Wait and wait and wait for months, cause finding the perfect family takes time. And so I did, I checked my EF-page every day, and I never turned of my phone, cause what if I missed The Call (again)?
On March 9th it happened, I was checking my EF-page, as usual, and at first I didn't really see it, but then I realized, there it was, their names. I had gotten myself a pair of hostparents! What a great moment! I ran down the stairs, screaming for my parents, and I called my friend not able to stay calm, cause I had to tell them about this little miracle! I was gonna spend my High School Year Abroad in Maine - Vacationland - The Pine Tree State.

Then more waiting, waiting for my departure date, July 17th 2011, and finally it arrived! I spend the last days in Denmark with my friends and family, and about a thousand new butterflies in my stomach, every time I came a new day closer.

I landed i Newark at 2.25 local time, and along with 18 other exchange students, left on a bus, on our way to Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. There I Spend two amazing weeks, with great people and a lot of fun.
It was sad saying goodbye, but I did what I have to do, and from Boston Airport I took a bus towards Portland, Maine, where My hostmom and hostsister picked me up.
I stayed with them for almost three months, but in the end, it didn't work out, and with help from some great people, I found a new amazing family, in Bath - Dan and Mari, and their two sons Alden and Gavin! And I love them! They're the best!
I started school at Morse High, I meet some wonderful people, and I now spend my days with My amazing Ameircan family, my good friends Kathleen, and Derek, going downtown, being with friends, having fun, experiencing a new culture, and enjoying my new home!

And so far -
I'm loving America!
